3D Model, Print, and Slipcast
Date
Fall 2022
Medium
Porcelain, Glazed
Coming from a background in engineering, I wanted to merge my technical skills in 3D modeling and printing with my passion for ceramics. These snack bowl and juice cup sets began as 3D models created on the computer, which were then 3D printed using PLA (plastic filament). I used these prints to create plaster molds, which were subsequently slipcasted in porcelain slip, capturing the intricate details and smooth surfaces of the original designs. The bowls underwent a full ceramic process: bisque firing, glazing, and a final reduction firing. This fusion of modern technology and traditional ceramic techniques allows me to explore new ways of shaping and forming clay, resulting in functional. yet uniquely designed pieces. Through this process, I hope to bridge the gap between the precision of engineering and the organic nature of ceramics, creating everyday objects that feel both contemporary and timeless.
