Artist Statement:

My work is process driven and involves the incorporation of fragmented pieces additively assembled. I often draw from my vast collection of vintage plaster molds. I slipcast multiple molds at a time and cut the objects and recombine them in interesting ways. This method of making reflects on the old and the new, the past and the present, and results in objects that appear to have a modern spin on kitsch art. I expand upon these works by then handbuilding them as large sculptures and adding further details and symbolism. These pieces then serve as my canvas for texture through adding bits of clay or carving clay away as well as the use of glazes and alternative firings. As an artist, I could be considered a maximalist, as I am dedicated to the process and want to push the limits of the form and surface in my work as much as possible. Other times, there is no mold or casting involved at all, I just handbuild the original sculpture. In these cases, I include the same sense of fragmentation and composition in other ways. I often transform these works into mixed media pieces with the incorporation of woodwork, printmaking, bronze casting, found materials, and more. A majority of my work ends up being part of a greater installation. As an artist, I am interested in communicating my ideas on the lived human experience as well as the environment around us. My works often have a sense of humor, fragility, and resilience in them whether it be a reflection of a certain aspect of interpersonal relationships or the impacts that we have on the environment.
